How long does it take for low calorie diet to slow down metabolism?

December 15th, 2009 by popular diet

myra cambelll asked:

I was wondering because this week has been hectic with school and everything and I calculated the amount of calories I ate the past few days and it was only around 900………….I’ll start eating better tomorrow with around 1300 calories, but I was just curious how long it takes for low calorie diets to slow down the metabolism.

For example, if I ate 800 calories one day, would it slow my metabolism down?
Basically, I’m asking how long it would take for a low calorie diet to make my body go into starvation mode……..

I’m consciously trying to eat better now because due to exams, I’ve been eating candy and tuna packets basically.

The idea is to speed up gaining weight you should never be under 1000 day because what happens is your metabolism slowed down that is quality.
The idea is quality not want you end up gaining weight you do not eat.

Your body goes into starvation mode around 3-4 hours after you’ve eaten or when your stomach is empty, whichever comes first. Your metabolism has probably already started to slow down. Just increase your calorie intake gradually, like 1000 tomorrow, 1100 the next day, 1200 the next, etc.
